Is Your Home Having a Midlife Crisis?

How to Know When It’s Time to Intervene

When it comes to remodeling your kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, or your whole house, Roeser Home Remodeling knows that sometimes it’s hard to figure out when and where to start. Many neighborhoods in St. Louis and the Kirkwood area have classic design homes that have been standing for years. No doubt you have come to love your neighborhood and have gotten comfortable in your home. Our homes become our havens, our places of refuge. For many homeowners, change comes with uncertainty and a level of apprehension. So, how do we know when our home is having a midlife crisis and decide that it’s time to intervene?

The first obvious sign that your home is having a midlife crisis are age and wear. Look around your home. Notice your cabinets, appliances, flooring, and faucets. Are they old and in need of repair or replacement? Do they look out of date and drab? What about your countertops? Are they cracking or peeling? Of course, the need for a home remodel is usually more important than just cosmetics. What is behind the walls? Are the water pipes showing signs of wear? Is the electrical system and design of your home up to current code? There are many factors to consider. So, how do we know when it’s time to intervene and begin the process of remodeling our home?

One suggestion that has been helpful to homeowners is to make a checklist. A checklist can be helpful in several ways. It can identify what you love about your home and what you would want to change. It also can give you answers as to why. Why do you need more closet space? Why do you need an additional bathroom or bedrooms? The answers to the “why” questions can put your mind at ease and help you determine what you want to get out of your home remodeling project.

Let’s consider a few reasons why a homeowner would decide it’s time to start a remodeling project.

More Space

One of the number one reasons homeowners begin to consider remodeling their home is the fact that they need more space. You come to realize that you have just outgrown your home! Maybe it was just the two of you at first, then your family began to grow. As time went on, you may have added children and pets to your cozy home, yet you need something different, something that fits your growing family better and gives everyone more room. Roeser Home Remodeling can help you envision an open floor plan, perhaps revolving around the kitchen or living areas adding an easier flow to the home. Larger family dinners, homework space, quiet conversations and general family time together may be easier with open floor plan areas that give you more space. More people in the family can also mean that you now may need more closet space, counter space, cabinet space, and overall floor space for your family. It could be that the number of bedrooms and bathrooms may no longer be adequate. Or maybe you want to be able to entertain more. An added deck, patio or outside living area may be exactly what fits your need. Roeser Home Remodeling can help you make an evaluation of, not only cost, but what areas of remodeling can best fit your family.

Efficiency

Depending on the age of your home, or even to stay on top of current trends many homeowners decide its time to remodel to save energy. Technological advances in today’s home products are designed to save you time and money. New energy efficient kitchen appliances, insulated windows, furnace, air conditioning, water heaters, added insulation and roofing solar panels are of a few of the upgrades that you can decide to install in your home remodeling project.

Aesthetics

Many homeowners decide its time for an intervention in their home simply because the age or lay-out is out of date and drab. Perhaps you love the area, the neighborhood, and the convenience of where you live, but you want a more stream line or comfortable feel to your home. You want your home aesthetic to fit who you are in the life you live. Roeser Home Remodeling stays on top of current trends in the home remodeling industry as an award-winning design company, we can take your vision and turn it into the home of your dreams.

These are just a few of the possible reasons why your home might be experiencing a midlife crisis and need a home remodeling intervention. No doubt you can think of many more personal reasons why now is the time to make the decision to remodel your home. Roeser Home Remodeling can help you every step of the way. Let us show you how we take the guess work out of the home remodeling process and how beautiful your home can be.

The Gift of Giving

This time of year, gift giving has been on the minds of people. Gifts are a beautiful way of showing that we love and care about others. A lot of time and thought goes into that special gift we want to give to those we love. Whether a lot of money is spent or just a little, most value the thought put into a special gift.

Gift giving, or Philanthropy, can take on many forms. While giving gifts normally involve knowing the person on a more intimate level, Philanthropy is usually giving with a common purpose in mind. In fact, Philanthropy is defined as a love of humanity which gives for a purpose or a cause.

Our family here at Roeser Home Remodeling want you to know that we are committed to giving back to our community. Our philosophy of life revolves around giving and helping others. In appreciation for all that our customers in the St. Louis and Kirkwood areas have done for us, we also encourage our family and employees to give back to the community. Leading by example, we coach others and share our expertise, not just in the field of home remodeling, but also in other areas to benefit the local community.

Roeser Home Remodeling, as a company or as employees, participated in several projects over the past year. Many of the projects touched our hearts.

For instance, we were proud sponsors and contributors in the annual event for Pancreatic Cancer Research in special memory of Sharon Rau and Terry Rau Sr. They were clients, but also lovely people. Sadly, they each passed away from the same awful disease only two years apart from each other. They are greatly missed.

Continuing our passion for giving, Roeser sponsored a bike team for the second year in a row. “Pedal for a Cause” helps benefit local research for finding a way to end cancer.

We have also been involved with and helped sponsor the “Evening of 100 Fingers”, which is an organization that supports Pianos for People. This organization is designed to get pianos into the homes of those who could not otherwise afford them, offering free piano lessons with the piano helping many children and young adults build skills, self-respect, and discipline.

Our very own Production Coordinator, Mark Talley participated in the 2017 “Operation Clean Stream” that takes place once a year designed to help protect our environment and wildlife from hazardous pollution. The volunteers in this project are selfless, wading in mud and gunk, as well as braving dirty water and possible encounters with poisonous snakes while helping clean up the polluted areas around the Meramec River basin. This past year, the volunteers covered about 500 miles of river area, cleaning up debris.

In addition to these projects, Roeser Home Remodeling continues to be involved in the community by supporting local schools, including Trivia night at North Middle School. As well as locally supporting the community by sponsoring the band “The Dog’s Breakfast” at Station Plaza’s Summer Concert series. This is a great event in Kirkwood to promote families and friends getting together and building relationships.

Of course, Roeser Home Remodeling also supports the Home Builders Charitable Foundation and we participate regularly in many St. Louis events, including hosting a Happy Hour to encourage other local builders and remodelers to raise the bar when it comes to home remodeling ethics and quality.

What lies ahead for the new year? Home remodeling trends change from year to year. Gift giving, or Philanthropy never goes out of style, the idea of acts of kindness and helping others will continue to be a part of the Roeser Home Remodeling way of life. We are dedicated to giving back to our community and staying on top of the trends of home remodeling while giving you the best when it comes to your home remodeling projects.

Being the proud recipients of the BBB Torch Award in 2017, Roeser Home Remodeling will continue to be a name you can trust to put the St. Louis and Kirkwood communities and your personal home remodeling interests to the forefront as we move ahead into 2018.

Home Remodeling is Not a Game of Chance

If Roeser Home Remodeling of St. Louis told you that your home remodeling project is not a game of chance, would you believe us? Of course, you would. Reputable home remodeling companies do not leave your project to chance. There are certain steps that a home remodeling company takes to ensure the success of your home remodeling or home addition projects.

The beginning of the home remodeling project starts with budget. The homeowner should have a realistic budget in mind, not some phantom, obscure idea that just because you want it, you can leave the budget to chance and somehow, even magically, your project will be exactly like your home remodel vision. Life is not like that, and neither is your home remodel project. It takes various aspects of planning, designing, and a realistic approach to what you want versus what your budget is.

St. Louis Kitchen remodel with washer/dryer - Roeser Home Remodeling

Not Your Grandma’s Kitchen

Most of us have fond memories of our grandma’s kitchen. The smells, the sounds, the interesting never seen before gadgets. Sometimes, even now, I bet a certain smell can take you back to that kitchen again. I still remember sitting at my grandma’s small white porcelain topped table, watching her do her grandma magic, dressed in a frilly white apron. The memories created have been building blocks leading up to what is now a modern super kitchen.

Kitchens today mean more than just making a meal. It’s where families spend most their time. The modern kitchen is the center of family life. Whether you are remodeling your kitchen, or newly building one, today’s consumer has a certain view of what they want it to be. While not wanting your grandma’s kitchen, you want the feel to remain the same. Having warmth and the feeling of home is just as important now as it was then.
