Spa Bathroom

What do the words “spa bathroom” bring to mind? Soft music, low lighting and a massage or facial? Spas are places to rejuvenate our bodies, minds and spirits. We don’t always have time to go to a spa but we can get many of the same benefits at home when we create a serene space for ourselves.

Whether your bathroom is a standard 8’x5′ or something significantly larger, you can have a bathroom that radiates luxury. That’s because a spa bathroom is more than the amount of square footage you have. It’s about the types and quality of the materials you use and the design of your space.

Below are some ideas to consider when planning your next bathroom remodeling project. What and how much you choose to use will depend on your budget and space but many can be incorporated in any home.

Use Natural Materials

The overarching aesthetic of many spas is in their natural textures. Two of the best natural floor and wall options are ceramic or stone tiles. Grout seals the seams from moisture. Some tiles and grout are available that are designed to repel water.

Bamboo is popular for it’s hardwood floor look but there are concerns using it in a bathroom. Purchase a high quality bamboo and be sure to seal it well, otherwise, the grass fibers of the bamboo will absorb water. The fibers also are susceptible to water damage from excessive humidity over long periods of time.

Separate the Tub

Separating the tub or shower from the rest of the room will give you a more private place to soak away your cares. Consider using an alcove if there’s one in place already. Enclosing it with a half wall is another way to give the tub a separate space with making it feel confined. Even a 3-panel room divider can give you a place to retreat behind.

Add Shower Amenities

If your bathroom has a shower only – or a shower/tub arrangement – and a divider just isn’t an option, choose an opaque sliding door or curtain. This will give you the privacy you crave. Adding a rain shower head will bring the feeling of showering in the rain indoors. If you have a walk-in shower, a teak stool gives you seating for accessible showering or just a place to hold shower supplies.

Opt for a Calming Color Palette

There’s a reason bathrooms walls are often painted blue or green. The natural elements of water, light, sky and air support wellbeing. Their colors fall in the cool spectrum and are relaxing and subtle. Choose paint, furnishings and textures in these colors. Add a pop of red or orange for a little excitement.

Choose the Unique

Spas often have interesting and unique furnishings such as sinks that are leaf-shaped or geometric mirrors. A natural stone sink makes use of a natural material if it isn’t an option for your flooring or walls. Plants bring the outdoors inside. Bamboo has an exotic look to it. Or choose a humidity-loving plant.

Set the Mood with Light and Scent

Good lighting is important for applying make-up and other personal care tasks. But lights installed on dimmers let you to set the mood for a long soak in your tub. Another way to soften the lighting so you can relax is with candles. Wall niches keep candles tucked out of the way of shower curtains. Or place a reed diffuser there with essential oils for aromatherapy.

No wall niche? Create a tablescape with some of these same elements. Fill a tray with fine sand, tuck in a few scented candles with decorative pebbles or pieces of glass and you’ve added one more element to create your spa bathroom.

These apron sinks come in porcelain, stainless steel, and copper. An added modern twist is also the incorporation of bamboo into the ageless apron sink giving it a new look and design aesthetic altogether.

Prep – were already mentioned regarding a supplement for a larger capacity bowl type sink. What wasn’t mentioned was that prep sinks come in a variety of shapes, styles and materials. Prep sinks are a great addition to your kitchen remodel regardless of the type of larger sink you decide upon. Think functional.

Integrated – are mainly designed to flow with the look of your countertops. Today’s modern integrated sinks are usually seen in conjunction with sleek modern styles of Quartz or Marble countertop materials. Built-ins could be the permanent solution for the space you need.

It’s true, all over the globe, when it comes to home design and home remodeling, there is a love affair with built-ins. Many question why. After all, you can’t

take anything built-in with you, if you decide to sell your home. Considering that fact alone makes many homeowners wonder what the fuss is all about.

Yet, once you fall in love with built-ins, it will be hard to ever live without them. The beautiful design to accommodate a built-in and the fact that built-ins add space to your home, make it a permanent solution for hard to find added storage areas.

Planning Your Built-ins

A built-in is defined as something built into the home that becomes a permanent attachment. If you are doing a home remodel to include built-in features, you want to make sure that the built-in meshes well and blends with your existing architectural aesthetic.

Roeser Home Remodeling of St. Louis can help you develop a well thought out plan of action. We will take you from idea, to plan, to final solution and design every step of the way. You may be unsure as to how to incorporate built-ins into your home remodel, rest assured that Roeser Home Remodeling will go over every minor detail with you. Since built-ins are a permanent solution for space and will stay with the home through every owner, what are some of the more desirable built-in options?

The first thing that may come to mind when considering a built-in is bookshelves. Built-in open bookshelves, or bookshelves with drawers, either way, it is a winner. Adding drawers to the built-in bookshelves will give added space to hide away items you don’t want in clear view. It is also a great place to add a cabinet area to store games, craft or school supplies. Built-in bookshelves give a special place to display not just books, but those special mementos and collectible items.

With weather changing the way it does in St. Louis, Roeser Home Remodeling thinks it’s a great idea to add a built-in gas fireplace for those cool and chilly evenings we have. Not only will a built-in fireplace add ambience, but it is functional as well to add warmth and coziness to your family areas.

Window Seat

While thinking of warmth and coziness, how about a built-in window seat? This would be the perfect spot for reading or relaxing on a rainy St. Louis day. An added benefit to a built-in window seat would be to add underneath storage below the cushions. This would be a great spot to store rarely used items such as extra pillows or throws.

Clean Up Your Electronics

When designing your built-in space there is no limit as to what you can do. A perfect solution for extra space is to add a television entertainment area with built-in space to store electronics and charging stations along with routers and computer gear. It is also the perfect built-in space to store DVD’s and computer games.

Divide a Room

Built-in shelves can also be used as a room divider to provide some privacy in open design areas. You can incorporate built-ins for laundry rooms or mud rooms adding built-in coat and shoe racks. In home office areas, adding lofted shelving and cabinets would serve for easy organization and additional storage for office supplies.

Whatever your desire or need for built-in space, Roeser Home Remodeling of St. Louis can help with your home design project. Built-in designs can be a permanent solution for adding more space. Call us today and our design team can show you how built-ins can be beautiful and functional at the same time while providing you with additional space and storage for your home.

Give Your Porch a Fresh Look

Few of us can think about porch sitting without having sweet memories of our childhood. Perhaps our earliest recollection of porch sitting is at grandma andgrandpa’s house. Those memories of porch sitting are so vivid in our minds that we not only remember the porch but also the sounds, the smells and the company we kept.

Many of us probably had grandparents who had a nice porch off the back of the house. Maybe it overlooked a lawn or garden area. Many precious memories can be made, sitting idly on a porch.

Porches of Today

Fast forward to our day. Now that we are adults with families of our own, we look for ways to incorporate those nostalgic memories into our modern outdoor living spaces, or porches of today. Roeser Home Remodeling loves designing outdoor spaces that bring back those childhood memories of porch sitting and provide the space for your family to make additional memories of your own.

Porch sitting nowadays, has many similarities of porch sitting in times past. Family and friends having sweet tea, lemonade or coffee over conversation while enjoying fresh air and sunshine, an evening of margarita’s, craft beer, or wine tasting, playing cards or board games, or snuggling on the swing, a reading nook, or private area for meditation and contemplation… the list goes on and on.  Not only does porch sitting create memories, but also helps to solidify strong bonds between family and friends.

Modern Porches

Many modern homes have porches designed to provide a beautiful, inviting entrance that says, “welcome” to neighbors and friends. Roeser Home Remodeling can create a porch space designed to have curb appeal and add value to your home while not compromising the welcoming spirit. Sitting areas can be designed and decorated to your taste. Outdoor furniture, while once only consisting of swings, stools or rocking chairs, now includes wicker, treated wood and furniture designed for comfort with padded seats and pillows. Decorating in calming or vibrant colors can add a flare of your personality while giving you an added area to linger and talk.

There is nothing quite like porch sitting. It is not just an activity, it’s a feeling. A feeling of home, part of our culture as Americans. While once considered a status symbol in America, it has now become something most of us long to have. A way to step back, take a moment to breathe and enjoy our life with the people we love.

Roeser Home Remodeling of St. Louis can turn your porch sitting dreams into reality. From idea, to plan, to final solution, your outdoor remodeling project will look amazing when completed and bring back the nostalgia of days gone by.

Kitchens and bathrooms get so much use. The fixtures and function can wear out quickly with the heavy traffic of family and guests. These rooms often show signs of wear much sooner than the rest of the house. So they often need to be updated more frequently.
