2022 Bathroom Trends for a Mid-Year Make Over

Bathrooms pose one of the biggest challenges to homeowners when it comes to renovations. A 2021 Houzz Bathroom Trends Study revealed that an inefficient design, out-of-date-style and lack of storage space are homeowners’ top pet peeves with their current bathroom.

Roeser Home Remodeling are experts in bathrooms and kitchens. We’ll address those concerns here, offering solutions to these problem areas and give you ideas that may work for your home, too.

Inefficient Design and Work

Most people won’t be able to expand their bathrooms out to surrounding areas, either due to a lack of space or the increased project cost of doing so.

Not to worry. The experts at Roeser Home Remodeling can come up with a plan that will make your bathroom more functional within the current footprint. This usually means changing the layout of the bathroom.

One thing to consider when doing bathroom renovations is who will be using it? An aging population means some features may be necessary, such as more handrails in the shower, flooring that is less slippery, and so on. And if the home is multi-generational, some of these changes would benefit young children, too.

Quality Plumbing

Reoser Home Remodeling is known for quality. We know that even though something looks beautiful on the outside and is pleasing to the eye, if it’s not working properly behind the scenes, trouble can arise.

Take plumbing, for instance. This is one area when it’s smart to invest in high quality fixtures. The last thing you want to do is bust open a wall to get to pipes that need to be fixed or replaced when it could have been done right in the first place.

Poor quality fixtures will have plastic gaskets and other materials that quickly break down. This will affect water flow and might even cause leaks.

Fixtures That are Out of Scale to the Room

Some people want to remove their tub and replace it with a freestanding tub. Others want – or need – to keep their tub. Here are some things to consider when you’re making your decision.

Freestanding tubs are still one of the big bathroom trends for 2022. But if you’re going to install one, you need to make sure it isn’t too big. A 60-inch tub in a 70-inch room is going to overwhelm the space. A freestanding tub should be about 8 inches from the wall, with at least a foot of space at both ends to allow for cleaning access. If your bathroom is too small to accommodate a freestanding tub, consider a larger inset tub.

Although it’s nice to dream of a bathroom so large that you have space for a wet room with a freestanding tub and multiple showerheads, not everyone has that kind of space. According to the Houzz study, alcove tubs, those found in the shower-tub arrangements, rose in popularity from 2020.

Whether you have a wet room, a freestanding tub or an alcove tub, it’s important to make sure the vanity and any other installed pieces are of the right size. We can guide you in your decisions.

The Right Light

The right lighting in a bathroom can make all the difference. Just as in any room, a layered approach works best with overhead lights, accents lights and even a nightlight for those midnight trips to the bathroom.

If your budget doesn’t allow for multiple layers of lights, then consider a dimmer light. This gives you the bright light you need to shave or put on makeup and romantic ambiance when you want.

In-Drawer Outlets

Whoever thought of this was a genius! Few bathroom trends are as functional as an in-drawer outlet. Small bathroom appliances can accumulate – hair dryers, shavers, electric toothbrushes and so on. They all need to be plugged in to use or recharge.

But who wants to clutter their vanity top with a bunch of cords? Not to mention it hides that beautiful backsplash and counter top you had installed.

Storage, Storage, Storage

It can’t be said too often (sort of like the real estate mantra,” location, location, location). Space can be at a premium in some bathrooms so it’s important to think outside the box.

Just as layered lighting is best in a bathroom, a variety of storage solutions is recommended. There should be a mix of cabinet, niche, drawer and open storage.

The most obvious storage ideas are drawers and cabinets. Roeser Home Remodeling carries the Wellborn line with a lot of gorgeous options based on budget and style.

But don’t stop at traditional cabinets. Consider these:

  • A shower niche. These hold the products you need so you don’t have a shower caddy hanging from the shower head and getting in your way.
  • Hidden hamper. This can be under a vanity or in a linen cabinet to keep wet towels off the floor.
  • Vertical wall-hung cabinets. These can save space in the bathroom, giving it over to something else such as a bidet.

The WOW! Factor

No trend is worthy without those items or additions that make us say, “wow!”  When you’re remodeling your bathroom, why not add one of these:

  • Heated floors. Who wouldn’t want to step out of a hot shower onto a warm floor, especially on a cold winter morning? Many pros say the feature is relatively inexpensive and easy to install. This is one of the bathroom trends no one regrets installing.
  • High-tech showerheads. Rainfall showerheads are nice, but how about upping it a notch with an aromatherapy shower head. Moen’s Aromatherapy Handshower uses INLY essential oil pods.
  • Your own spa products. Turn your bathroom into your personal spa, a time for you to recharge after a tough day or just get a little time away for yourself after caring for everyone else. Add some aromatherapy beads, a beautiful bath tray, a glass of wine, soft music and you’ll feel better in no time.
